This Writer’s View: First, whoever the Brooklyn Mariners put on the field against you, come to play. This Mariner teams was no differnt. The Wolves and Mariners went to battle right from the first whistle. The Mariners defense is and has been one of the hardest to run against, they prove so again Saturday, capitalizing on some Wolves mis-ques to effectivly stop the Wolves running game. The Wolves offense line responed by giving QB Mark Johnsom plenty of time to throw, allowing Johnson to throw for 170 yards and one TD. Johnson connected with WR Pyles 4 times for 113 yards and the winning TD. Earning Pyle the offense game's MVP for the second week in a row.
The Wolves defense was outstanding, bending but never breaking. Shutting down the run and the long ball, allowing only the short pass. Vets and rookies steped up. Corners Charlie Patterson (rookie) and Wausa omigbenjo (vet) both shut down the corners. Vets Lou Valle and Shomari Josephs controled the inside run. DE's Qud Dixion and David Mclean prevented the Mariners from getting outside on the run. LaSalle McDonald ( rookie DE) held is own in relief of vets Qud Dixion and David Mclean, keeping the pressure on the Mariners. Every defense player did their job. The special teams play was great. Trye Fort and Brian Veglatee were outstanding on special teams. Josh Belle. LB/SS Belle had 4 solo tackles, 1 block punt, 1 black field goal and a fumble recovery, earning him player of game on the defense side.
The Wolves are off this week and resume play August 2; travaling to Brooklyn to play the Long Island Seahawks.
